On Sunday 20th June, an Ettington Community First Responder Scheme team of six people completed this year’s Stratford and Wellesbourne Lions’ raft race on the river Avon between Wasperton and Stratford-upon-Avon. Entered in the Survivor class for rafts based on barrel and wood construction and with Resusci Anne as mascot, the team came fourth in class and completed the seven-and-a-half-mile course in 3 hours and 22 minutes.
This was the second time that the re-built raft had completed the course, the first time being in 2008 under the team name “Weir We Come” in tribute to a 2007 entry of the previous team that ended somewhat prematurely at Hampton Lucy weir!
Scheme Secretary and Project Manager for the rafting, Steve Boreham, commented that as well as helping to raise sponsorship for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance that is a partner in saving lives, the event had been effective both as a team building exercise and a platform to promote CFR schemes amongst the general public.
The team were also delighted to support the Wellesbourne Lions’ event. Wellesbourne Lions has been a keen supporter of the Ettington CFR Scheme during its first year of operation, raising critical funds for the Scheme.
