Halford villagers donate £1,400 to Ettington Community First Responder Scheme

  • by

On Tuesday 26th October 2010, a group of seven Halford residents representing their village made a donation of £1,400 to Ettington Community First Responder Scheme. The presentation was made at Halford Bridge Inn where Secretary Steve Boreham received the donation on behalf of the Scheme from resident Ethel Webb.

Mr Boreham remarked; “As a non-responding member of the team, to receive this incredible donation in the company of three kind supporters who have needed us and with the heartfelt words that w ere spoken really brought home to me the value of First Responding in the emergency services chain. It was equally a very motivating and a very touching experience.” Mr Boreham added; “Whilst it is important to recognize the generosity of Halford village at large, I know I am not alone in wishing to thank Mrs Ann Harris in particular for her tireless energy and creativity in fundraising leadership.”

In the last 12 months alone, Ettington CFR Team has attended eleven ‘999’ incidents in Halford. Currently, the village is covered by our First Responders based in Ettington and Newbold-on-Stour. Our response times for Halford (from callout to arriving at scene) are very good – usually between 3 and 5 minutes – and this is set to improve yet further with a Halford based CFR, Philippa, joining the team. Although Philippa is still to undertake her training programme with West Midlands Ambulance Service, the generous donations from Halford, together with our Lottery funding, means that we will be able to purchase her equipment in advance such that she will be able to ‘go live’ immediately on the completion of her training.
