On Saturday 22 July, two of our CFRs, Gill and Russ, represented our team at Henley-in-Arden CFR team’s launch event. For the first time in many week’s the sun shone for the opening ceremony held in the town’s market cross. Speeches were given by John Pudney of Henley CFR Team and Sir Graham Meldrum (WMAS Chairman). Sir Graham then formally launched the team by cutting the ribbon on the team’s scheme vehicle.
A reception was held afterwards for invited guests. Amongst the speakers was Anthony March, CEO WMAS, who explained how delighted he was to be at the launch event for Henley and went on to explain how , in a wider context, CFR teams play a vital role in the service delivered by WMAS. He explained that the service receives 3,000 ‘999’ calls every day. Anthony explained that, in addition to its 4,000 permanent staff, there are 1,500 volunteers (such as those in CFR teams) working with the Service and these are an important element of the WMAS response to these calls and he said that he was personally very grateful for this much-valued support. Anthony also asked his personal thanks to be conveyed to all the non-CFRs (non-responding members) in CFR teams who provide vital support and fundraising roles.
